Conditions for use

  • JR-Central Tourist Pass is only for foreign nationals with "temporary visitor" status.
  • When using this pass, you must show your passport if requested by train/station staff.
  • This pass is non-negotiable.
  • This pass may only be used within the valid period.
  • When you begin using this pass, please go through the automatic ticket gate or an aisle that is staffed.
    Present the pass to the station staff at a staffed aisle , who will affix a seal on the pass. Also, when passing through an entrance that is staffed, please show your pass so that the staff can see the period of use.

  • During its valid period this pass allows you to travel up to 6 times on ordinary reserved seating on the Hokuriku Shinkansen and limited express train between Nagoya station – Takayama station (via Tokaido/Takayama lines), Toyama station – Tsuruga Station (via Hokuriku Shinkansen), Tsuruga station – Kyoto station – stations within Osaka City area (via Hokuriku/Kosei/Tokaido lines), and stations within Osaka City area – Kansai airport(via Hanwa/Kansai airport lines).
    Please be aware, however, that the pass does not guarantee that you will be able to secure a seat when the desired train is crowded. If you use reserved seating, please be sure to receive a free reserved seating ticket at the ticket centers at the main stations of JR Central or JR West on the designated routes, JR Tokai Tours' branch offices, or a reserved seat ticket machine before boarding. This pass alone allows you to travel on non-reserved seating.
  • This pass does not allow you to travel on the Tokaido Shinkansen between Kyoto - Shin-Osaka station. Please be aware that to travel on the Tokaido Shinkansen, you will need to pay the required basic fare and additional fees separately.
  • Green Cars and Gran Class may not be used with this pass. Please note that you will be required to pay additional fees separately when using the Green Cars or Gran Class. 
  • Basic fares and fees will not be refunded even if reserved seats are used 5 times or fewer.

Alpine-Takayama-Matsumoto Area

  • During its valid period, this pass allows you to travel up to four times on ordinary reserved seating on the limited express and rapid train between Nagoya station - Toyama station (via Tokaido/Takayama lines) and between Shinano-Omachi station - Nagoya station (via Oito/Shinonoi/Chuo Main lines). Please be aware, however, that the pass does not guarantee that you will be able to secure a seat when the desired train is crowded. If you use reserved seating, please be sure to receive a free reserved seating ticket at the ticket centers at the main stations of JR Central, JR West, JR East on the designated routes, JR Tokai Tours' branch offices, or a reserved seat ticket machine before boarding a train. This pass alone allows you to travel on non-reserved seating.
    When you use any transportation services operating in the route between Tateyama and Ogizawa, you must present the pass at Tateyama station’s or Ogizawa station’s ticket gate window, and receive a "boarding pass" to use the transport on that route.
  • This pass does not allow you to travel on Toyama Chiho Railway between Terada Station - Unazuki-Onsen. Please note that you will be required to pay the necessary fares and fees when using this service.
  • Green Cars may not be used with this pass. Please note that you will be required to pay additional fees when using the Green Cars. 
  • Please note that seating fees are required when you to use the Home Liner.
  • Basic fares and fees will not be refunded even if reserved seats are used 3 times or fewer.
  • If you cancel your trip due to inoperability of any transportation service on the Alpine Route, refunds will be made at the JR Central's pass exchange locations for this pass. In this case, as long as you travel along the route covered by this pass, you can board trains to the JR Central's pass exchange location within the route without fares and fees. Refunds will not be given if you continue your trip. In addition, if you use of any transportation service on the Alpine Route, there will be no refunds for any reason.

  • This pass does not allow you to board trains without non-reserved seats, such as the “Fuji-san” limited express. You will be required to pay additional fees separately when using these.
  • The Tokaido Shinkansen and sleeper trains cannot be used with this pass. Please note that you will be required to pay necessary fares and fees separately when using these.
  • Please note that seating fees are required when you to use the Home Liner.

How to book and issue reserved seat tickets

Important Notes

  • This pass may not be exchanged for other tickets. In addition, the validity period may not be changed.
  • This pass cannot be issued if lost or stolen.
  • Extensions of the validity period or refunds of this pass will not be granted due to suspension of train operations, delays, or other reasons. In addition, we will not bear additional costs, such as transportation costs or accommodation charges, due to itinerary changes.
  • To use this pass, you must obey the terms and conditions above, as well as the regulations and terms and conditions of JR Central, JR West and the laws of Japan.
  • The use of this pass on a JR line in violation of the terms and conditions above and the regulations and terms and conditions of JR Central and JR West may result in the invalidation and confiscation of the pass, as well as the assessment of a penalty amounting to twice the basic fares and fees for all transportation services for which the pass was used. Penalties for misuse of the pass outside of JR lines will depend on the regulations of the companies concerned.
  • The official terms and conditions of this pass are in Japanese, and all questions regarding transportation conditions that may arise are
    subordinate to the official terms and conditions.
